The decision to start designing and sewing my own clothes came after realizing the impact I was having on not just the environment, but also people's lives. The sad truth about re-selling clothes from whole sellers and vendors is that the majority of these clothes are made overseas in countries that have poor labor laws and unfair wages. Fast fashion is also a huge contributor to pollution, it is responsible for 20% of water pollution, 1.5 trillion liters of water wasted yearly, and over 190,000 tons of microplastic fibers that end up in our ocean every year, and that's just to name a few. While it's easy for us businesses or consumers to ignore these facts, it doesn't make them any less true.

 

I knew that I could no longer allow myself or my business to be a part of the fast-fashion industry, and while teaching myself how to sew has been a challenge, it's been the best change I could've implemented in my brand.
